Black fouled spark plugs..Reason anyone?
I wanted to check my spark plugs, as start cranking time when cold car is about 5 secs.
The car runs fine and starts quick when hot and no problems at all.
I found the spark plugs to be fouled and black, like it has been running too rich, please anyone out there..What might be the reason for my long cold start cranking times before firing up, and what may cause the spark plugs to get black?
The cold start cranking times did not improve with new spark plugs, and I have tried to replace the CSV.
Thanks in advance

Re: Black fouled spark plugs..Reason anyone?
I have that same 5 second start time when cold. I had it checked and was told that I am due for a new fuel pump. I am not too surprised at that news, as my fuel pump has been making evil whiny sounds as of late. The guy told me that the 5 sec delay is most likely a bad check valve letting the line bleed off pressure. Check valve is on the fuel pump, so for me, replacing the fuel pump gets rid of evil sound and bad check valve.
I have not pulled any spark plugs so I cannot say anything on that subject.
Good luck.

like Drew_Barre MA said, it could be check valve........
The other likely possibility is that you have injector leak down. Gas is leaking into the engine or leaking back into the tank, and it takes a while to repressurize. Both are VERY common.
