Default So it's rare? Any idea how many were imported?

I got a lead on one, wondering if it's worth snaging?

Default Possibly..

The Audi tech here in town has (or had) one. He said they were somewhat rare, and after I thought about how many Ive seen or heard about in the forums, I began to agree. He says its very quick, as it doesnt have the extra weight of quattro.
Sure, if the price is right and mostly everything checks out OK, Id snag it!

Default Re: Yes I had one! They are fast... with torque steer.

I had a 1986 5K CS Turbo FWD 5speed.

They are harder to find but are worth their weight in gold if you want fast. The torque steer was very fun and I could chirp the tires in 1 through 4 with a good drop of the clutch.

The clutches are like iron and on my 86 I never replaced it even when I sold it with 202K miles. My 92 5sp has 168K on the origional clutch.

SO, If you find one buy it!

Default I hear that the 5000 5 speed trans is popular with kit car builders.

Apparently it is stong and light, an ideal combo. They mate it to an american v8. I can't remember where I read it though... If I find it I'll post a link.

I heard from an Australian on something I had posted. He was building a GT 40 kit and wanted one. I have seen other references, itseems it has/or will accept Porsche gearsets. Did Getrag make the tranny? there should be a lot of interchange if they did. I know that Kennedy Engineering makes an adapter to the Chevy.

Default Did the 5000 turbo ever come in 5 spd other than quattro?-Yes!

I had an '86 5kt 5-speed FWD for 2 years until it was trashed by idiot SUV driver. It was a very fun car with 1.8 bar chip - just had to be careful on the slippery roads.
