Default intermittent a/c

Now for some of the challenges in this new love / hate relationship.
THe a/c compressor turns on but the fan does not run consistently, the PO had the a/c charged for me and when when working it is plenty cold.

Your aux fan is not running when the AC is on which cause the high side pressure to become too high. There is a high pressure switch which will disengage the compressor clutch. The aux fan must come on whenever the AC is on. The fan will cool the freon in the condenser to help reduce the pressure on the high side. Does the AC works without problems on the highway? Air is moving pass the condenser to cool the freon and a fan is really not needed. The fan is needed in city and/or stop and go driving.

Check your fan resistor which is a large 'L' shape metal object about 8" long either gold or blue in color and mounted on the driver side front frame rail below the condenser. There are three connectors for the three fan stage (low, med high). Remove the front cover by the radiator to get access.

Default Re: intermittent a/c ...........which fan

The fan that is not working consistently is the fan(blower) in the car. This the one that blows all that cool air on our hot sweaty bodies, the hi/low switch does not help and even in economy mode nothing helps. You just shut it off and try later.

Default Not a bad job to replace it, just time consuming...

The fan you refer to is the heater blower motor. After 11 years of constant use your blower motor bushings are gone, and they have to be replaced. I've done it on both my Quats.

I think I posted a link here a while back, if you can't find it on a search, go over to the Audifans site (www.audifans.com) and search on the term 'steak knife'. Yes, 'steak knife', as in the thing the guy used to cut the plenum hose - later folks found you didn't have to cut the hose to get the blower out.
