Default oil cap...good or bad

so the v8 is running a little better. I still get a burning oil smell somewhat sometimes. I looked at the engine to see if I could see fresh oil and it looked like it was coming from the oil cap. Could this be? How can I tell if the cap is bad. Never heard of an oil cap going bad. If it is bad then how can i fix it.

Default The seal behind the caps go bad.

You can buy just the seal at the worldpac sites. Autohausaz.com for instance.

Default Is it leaking from the valve cover?

& no way you could get a burnt oil smell from a bad oil cap gasket! The oil from the cap would run into the lower intake cover...no were near the exhaust.
But a leaky VC gasket is in the area of the exhaust header/intermitant pipe.

& here's the link to the oil cap.

h

Default pictures - BWW, large images within

I have all of this saved as an .html file with step-by-step procedures and hints and tips and such if you want me to email the .zip to you. I was thinking of doing a whole website full of these but a few problems arose: a) I have no web host, b) I'd always forget to take pictures during repair procedures and c) the Knowledge Base (now defunct) did the same basic thing. I modeled it after the 944 community of Clark's Garage.

YOU ONLY NEED TO LOOSEN THIS FUEL FITTING to wiggle the line out of the way to remove the valve cover.

...tight the acorn valve cover bolts are. There only like 7/10ft lbs. DO NOT over tighten them!
