Default rear window troubles......

My rear driver side window openned 1 inch all by itself yesterday on the way home from work.

I was able to roll the window down but it wouldn't come back up.

Strange noises emanated from the door when I tried to work the switch.

Now I can move the window up and down with my hand so I'm guessing window regulator and/or cable trouble.

Are there any guides out there to fix this thing with pictures?

thanks

Chi

Default Suggest removing the door panel to see what is going on........

the electric window motor/regulator with cable winder is all one unit. After removing the door panel, reattach the window switch to the winder unit, operate it up and down a few times to see why you are getting loose cable slack. Whatever is causing the trouble, you will probably need to replace the motor winder unit, as they are not repairable.

I am not aware of any guide to walk you through the process, but I have done it a few times, so I am willing to talk you through things. It is somewhat of a PITA, but very much a project that you can do on your driveway, as a one man job. Drop me an email, if you like. Regards, Rooster2 (Larry)

My experience with windows that goes down on their own is frayed wires shorting out through the door jam. The fact that you can work the window up and down may also indicate a broken actuator. Check the wires first but you will probably end up pulling off the door panel anyway. Chris Miller's site or the 20v.org site can guide you on the panel removal.

Send me an E-mail, let me know your phone number and best time and day to call and I will walk you thru the process of door panel removal. Once you know, it is very easy and fun.
Larry taught me this. Thanks to him.

Default Re: mine died yesterday and...

I pulled the switch, checked to verify red and black wires for power and ground. Saw no power and rain coming soon but stripped some extra wire in the trunk to connect switch directly to the battery. Window went back up but I did not check the cause of the short yet.
If yours goes up with this procedure, it probably is not cable related. Let us know.
