Default to those who have a chipped 3B 20vt...

are you using your stock clutch? how is holding up to the added power? what kind of upgraded performance clutch options are out there? i'm having my ecu chipped to about 275hp/300ft-lbs and i'm worried my stock clutch will burn out faster than MC hammer.

Default I'm using a 2bennet sport clutch and it is holding up great

driving in traffic isn't bad either around boston, and i have many extra performance upgrades. The stock clutch would slip under hard acceleration and it was a brand new Sachs unit.

I don't see the problem with the factory clutch disc. Perhaps the pressure plate wouldn't have enough clamping force, but I haven't seen too many aftermarket solutions for them so I doubt they are a weak link.

I figure if they can last 100-200k miles, even with track driving, why wouldn't they hold up to a chipped motor?

Default The 3B is 217 stock.

Most chips claim 277 - 300 without additional mods.

Default the 3B is highly de-tuned from the factory. this engine has enormous potential...

that is very easy to uncover, even with just a chip. Intended Acceleration's stage III chip puts you up to near 280hp, for example, with no other mods.

In my shop, I install anything customers bring in, but the stock unit is pretty damn sturdy, certainly plenty for a stage 3 chipset. The problem with HD clutches, is they wear out faster, you don't get sumtin for nuttin. I have a couple of full race 5ktq's with stock clutches that really don't have any problems. In the LT1Q, (corvette motor into 5ktq) we put in a stock clutch, but really stiff (440/b/ft) Pressure Plate, and had no clutch problems at all.

My own thinking is IF you want to extend the life of an existing clutch, get some air into the trans bellhousing to keep it cooler (old trick, the MG's did this from the factory). IME with audi quattro clutches, heat kills them more than "wear" per sae. I've pulled clutches that the TOB was wasted (clutch ok) at over 200K.

Stage III chipsets are rated at 270HP (max), you aren't going to see 300 out of one without the RS2 manifold minimum. I really doubt the k24 can pump 300hp. The reason it feels so good is the torque, gains of 50-60lb/ft are real seat o pants hitters.

Default thanks, but does this apply to the stock Coupe Quattro clutch as well?

this is all happening to my eS2 conversion and i'm hoping to use my stock clutch, pp, and gearbox.

Don't use the stocker, it can't handle the 3b power. I'm not sure I'd even use the stock trans, but I've seen it done. Use the turbo clutch/PP/flywheel, otherwise you will wish you did the second time you pull the trans.
