V8Q still sick...

V8Q still sick...
finally got time off, took the V8Q to a recomended mech.he tested the fuel pump and said the voltage was fine and pressure was within range.he said he suspected the air flow meter, but then statd that I had a bigger issue as the engine was leaking oil.he said the air flow meter would work for about a month or 2 but I would get these same symptoms again. He recommended the V8Q was done for and start looking for a new car.
Thing is I seem to have an idling, sputtering and car shut off problem when I hear the fuel ppump hiss.Im thinking about taking it to a different mech for a second opinion.

definitely get a second opinion....
many mechanics will not really want to work on the car because of it's age and their lack of familiarity.
If the FP is good and the ignition is all checking out then I'd look at the injectors and/or the FPR.
FPRs are known to fail causing the motor to actually hydrolock.. and then bent rods happen... not good. Did he check the FPR during his testing?
What is the voltage on the O2 sensor doing?

Re: V8Q still sick...
Sorry I can't give you any suggestions on your problem but I'd without a doubt get another opinion. Any thing can be fixed, it's just finding someone intelligent enough with these cars to fix one. The only reason a car is "done for" is when it's rusted beyond repair. I'm not sure of your location but you could always take it or have it shipped to this place for service.

Re: so what has changed since this post?
itsav8,if u had read what I posted...I took the car in to mech, he said he pulled codes on air flow meter but when he replaced it,he still got the same codes.he was not able to clear the codes, thus he has advised that the V8Q is done for and should look at getting something else.
The car drives fine but when the fuel pump starts to his,it loses power to a point where it stalls,if it does shut of,if its started again it roars like a lion and takes of like a cheetah so I thought I would I would take it in to a diff. mech for a 2nd opinion.

Re: definitely get a second opinion....
maybe a FPR could be whats causing my sever lack of horsepower? just got whooped by a corrolla xrs or something and a old beat the hell up acura smoking like all hell out the tail pipe :/ going to try replacing distributors and coolant temp sender located at the back of the passenger side. hose on the FPR looks good on my car but god knows when the actual FPR was replaced.

Check your FPR
It may be failing intermittantly...
..causing excess fuel pressure in the system, which may cause the fuel pump to hiss.
I had that happen once to another Motronic car.
