What is the good cylinder compression for an MC-1 10vturbo engine from an 87 5ktq?
Test drove an 87 5ktq for sale today. has 192K kms on the clock. It was a backup car for the owner so it didn't get driven much. The engine ran with a little clunking kinda sound. Not very loud, but not how it ran on my old 200t. When I drove it pulled pretty nice. The owner said that usual boost is 1.3 bar but sometimes it wnt up to 1.5/ When I test drove it hill it would take off at 3K rpm, so I am guessing the turbo is still in good shape. That clunking noise in the engine is what I don't really like, so I was going top do a compression check and see if it is still good. I know that it should be consistent number through out all 5 cylinders, but what would a good number should be? What was it for a brand new engine?

According to my bentley manual the limit for comression on this motor is 94.
So if it's any lower than that....ehhhh no
I'm not sure but nornmal might be around 120?
remember to open the throttle all the way when doing the test otherwise you will get a false reading. Just pull the coil wire off so nothing fires...

about 125 to 126 I believe... but don't hold me to it. Most importantly you don't want the readings to fluctuate wildly from cyl to cyl. +/- 1 is OK from what I've been lead to believe.

Heyyyyy, is this the one in the van buy-sell for $1900? You gonna buy it? Owner mentioned a parts car too...

Could be many things...
Rusted cat. conv. hangers (they are metal brackets), bad motor/trans mounts (any of the 5), bad alt. bushings, all sorts of stuff can make a rattle/clunk.

hey yes that's the one. The engine didn;t sound perfect so I needed sometime to think about it, but
by the time I made up my mind(6 hours later) and gave him a call back, he said that somebody bought 2 hours after I left, lol
Oh well, gonna keep looking :-)
