Default 2 Questions!

How hard is it to get the starter out of an 88 80Q? Any PITA things I should be aware of?
What about for a Coupe Quattro?
Basically- I need to take the starter from the 80 and put it in the CQ so i can drive it for now because ice flew off of the back of a tractor/trailer and almost came threw the windshield of my CGT. And the best part is... They arent liable for it!!!

Default 1 question

how are they not liable for it? that sounds like a b.s. deal. I know around here they "aren't liable" for dump truck type debris, but is this the same case?

Pretty simple, it is the same process in both cars, it is only like two bolts plus the wires.

Default Yep... 2 bolts...

The bottom bolt goes through the starter/block/transmission and is a bolt/nut. Can be accessed from under the car.

IIRC it's a 17mm

Top bolt comes through from the transmission side, and threads into a hole in the starter. Easiest way to get to it:
-pull the battery out
-pull the little 'panel' out of the bottom of the battery tray
-reach down in with a wrench or socket+short extension+ratchet.

IIRC it's a 19mm

Main +ve connection on the starter is a 13mm nut.

I just did this the other morning in my driveway when my starter froze. (-24C)

Default Ya... thats crap...

and worst part is, if you claim it on your insurance, they'll find a reason to raise your rates.

Default Only liable if they were hauling ice. If it was incidental or a build up from the road, not their

issue. It's like someone wanting you to pay for their windshield froma piece of ice that fell of your ski rack.
