Default 93 90cs runs hot

I have a 93 audi 90cs and I think it runs hot. Does anyone know if the temp gauge should go up to 3/4 and sit there? The fans come on and off all the time.

It is definitively not normal. Which coolant type are you using ? When was the last time the coolant was changed ? Have you checked the coolant reservoir, when the coolant is at ambient temperature ? Leaks ? When was the last time you had your thermostat replaced ?
By the way, do not be drive it like that, you can do some serious damage.

VAG first: Have your vehicle scanned for faulty codes. There can be many things: plugged radiator, faulty thermostat, faulty temp switch, bad o2 sensors, faulty coolant reservoir cap, etc... Or few of these at the same time!

Good thing is your fans are working. For the time being remove the engine belly pan (plastic cover underneath the engine) if you have it - to offload some temp.

Good luck

if i remember correctly, and we head a discussion a while ago... the "belly pan" actually assists in keeping the engine compartment cooler.

Dealer said it was normal....temp never went higher then 3/4 of the gauge and they tested the coolant temp and it was withing nomal limits.....took it else where to have A/C fixed and am having water pump/timing belt/thermostat/coolant/radiator replaced, big expense but still no car payment!
thanks
