Air Bag light won't shut OFF? ('93 90CS)
Hello all, ever since this afternoon the AIR BAG light on my dash won't shut OFF. It blinks a few times when I start teh car but then it stays on. I have tried disconnecting the battery for about 1 hour but that did not help. Does anybody know how to troubleshoot this issue. Could this be caused by the alignment that was performed 2 weeks ago?? You guys are always great help.
Many Thanks,
LouisR

Re: Air Bag light-Got Bentley?
Wow! Had the EXACT same problem with my 93 90cs 2 weeks ago. I noticed that light came on once I started driving (flashed when I started it). I just thought it had always been there, but haven't noticed it. Do you think it needs to be looked at? Let me know what you find out!

Why do you keep saying that? the airbag system is easy to work on.
If you aren't scared of having an airbag pop in your face (worst scenario, would most likely never happen) I would say take a stab at it.
On the 93+ cars, there is a spiral sensor that's bolted to the back of the steering wheel that commonly goes bad. It takes about 10min to get it off, and another couple to diagnose. Pull it off and check each wire for resistance.. Forget what bentley says, but I think its like .5 and 1.2 ohms.
Otherwise there is a connector just above your feet that needs to be plugged together, its unique, red with purple trim. it's in that little compartment above your feet in the console area.
It's no fun to take your car to the dealership or service location, and thats mostly why people are here on this forum.
(fun as in $$$, and fun as in fun)

Re: Why do you keep saying that?
For you Audios69, I would not say that to, because you have "experience" working on the system & the cars.
For others, with absolutely "zero" experience, I say take it to the dealership.
Because, say your directions they follow, and something goes wrong, say they pop the airbag?
That airbag can kill you if your too close to it when it pops! The Factory Repair manual has several in bold red "Warnings" about working on the airbags, in & around the airbags.
So for those with zero experience, & in the interest of safety, I say "take it to the dealership" or Audios69! ;O)

Re: Why do you keep saying that? the airbag system is easy to work on.
I have plenty of experience, and I would like to take a stab at it. Like working on struts...Keep your head away from the danger zone and in this case disconnect the battery first as well.
Any ways, do I need special tools to get at this spiral switch behind the wheel. Like do I need to pull the wheel right off and if so what special tools will I need.
Also what are you talking about when you say otherwise connect the unique harness above your feet. Why would it be disconnected in the first place/...by a dealership that wants you to come back??????????
TIA
