Hi,

Just a couple of questions.

1. What is the difference between a B3 and a B4

2. Also what is the my powerful engine that can be fitted into a 1989 Audi 80.

1. The B3 is the bodystyle used on the 80/90 up until 1991, noticed by the seperated hood and grill. The B4 is the bodystyle for the 80/90 from 1993 on, noticed by the hood and grill being one unit. There are other differences in looks but that is the biggest.

2. Not sure what you want, a 10v turbo is good for 175hp stock (~260hp with a little "help") and is ~$400 to buy, a 20v Turbo is 227hp stock and can be made to a higher hp then the 10v turbo, it costs ~$2000-$3000 for the engine, after that the sky is the limit, but you need the money. Those two engines will fit and bolt in pretty easily anything else will get into some extra work.

Thanks for the information Jim, To give you some additional information I have inherited a 1989 Audi 80 and want to use this as a project car and may be change the engine from the 1800cc that it already has to something that has more power and will fit nicely into the chassis space that I have to work with. The Car is a 1.8 E

I would not try to modify the FWD car too much that transmission is not desinged to handle that much power (it is an Auto right??). I would try to get a Quattro that has the 5-speed and would be better equiped to handle the greater stress.

For some reason I just assume all Audi's are Quattro.

Jim,

This is a 5 speed manual so it should be easier to drop in a Quattro lump into the car.

Darren, turbo the 4cyl motor...Its been done. Otherwise, you could likely drop a 1.8t fairly easy (due to the engine bay layout of the 4cyl cars, which is different than the 5cyl).

Also, the UK has several 200hp 10vt motors from the factory in the later (1988-1991) Turbo quattro Coupe's (aka ur-quattro). Engine code MB. The 200 also got a 200hp engine, it is either the 1B or 2B, and is also a 10vt.

If you really want a 20vt, you have the 3B, RR, AAN, and ABY to readily choose from (try AllAudi.co.uk and VAGParts.com for help in getting things sourced, both are UK based and good).

Thanks for the info just another question have done some more research can you tell me if the 2.8 litre Quattro engine can fitted into this car.

seen it done. 16v VW head on the 3B (is that the code for the 1.8?) block, T3/T4 turbo. Rockin' : )

of course thats pushing 15-20 psi or something....

If my B3 Passat had the longitudinal engine layout as Audi's, and quattro (like the B2 Quattams)I'd be keeping it.

3B is not 1.8. 3B= 1991 Audi 200 20v turbo engine.
