been wondering about those running bigger wider tires on the CQ
considering the rieger red S2 we saw a few days ago had 17x10 in the rear with 255/35 and the fronts being 17x8.5 using 215/40 ... what would this look like? i've seen 255 on a 9.5in rim and its a little streched. that means 255 with 1/2inch more maybe extreme. so what set-up could be used while staying fairly close to stock rolling diameter and not having to really get too serious about modifying the coupes fender flares? anyone have close pictures, or any at all, of a 10inch tire with 255?

Match F/R circumference or say bye-bye to your Torsen....
And don't stretch the tires on the wheels, it's bad for the tires (tire manufacturers list allowable rim widths for a reason) and it looks dumb.

matching is easy ... making it a complete package of matching, fitting, etc. is another story.
like i could use a 17" 275/40 in the back and 245/45 in the front. but this gives you a 4.3" sidewall height compared to 3.4" using 215/40/17 and not to mention a hard time making them fit.

Tire sizes are only a suggestion, actual circumference will vary based on many factors...
if you get 2 different sizes they aren't going to be the same circumererence necessarily even if the sizes say they will be. The only way to be absolutely sure is to mount them on the wheels you plan to use and measure the circumference, and by then you've already bought everything and are screwed.
Why do you want staggered wheel sizes with larger rear tires on a car that already understeers horribly and would prefer to distribute power evenly to all 4 wheels?
Also, get used to the idea of tramlining and hydroplaning, you will enjoy lots of both with such wide tires.
Just sayin', why mess with a good thing? Our cars aren't meant to use wheels and tires like that. Some 7.5" or 8" wide wheels all around will look good and not stress the car or make it drive poorly.
Sorry I seem to be grumpy tonight.

rims/tires are purely aesthetic. they don't increase/reduce power ... thats why "looks" are factored
looks aren't the most important but they are a factor. people have been using staggered rims in europe on the quattro's for a good bit of time. i liked the way the Rieger S2 looked and would like a similar "look". The main reason im even asking is because i don't want to run a 255 tire on a 10" rim because of the stretched tire. In fact .. if thats not possible without too much hassle, I'll most likely just do 8.5" all the way around.
there are ways to create a car to oversteer. sway bars, throttle input, left foot braking, etc.

and 225/40/18 on a 9 in the front. and for all you smart-a$$e$ out there.. YES THEY ARE EXZACTLY THE SAME ROLLING DIAMETER, IVE CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES
