The plastic water neck was a pic I grabbed off a euro website.

Yours looks like this?

Yes, mine looks like that. Now if only I could find the nice boot I grabbed for that sensor... my old one deteriorated inside, I currently have the wires carefully plugged in while not touching.
So I've yet to see it with my own eyes but based on the gauge getting just above half then going back a little, something must be working right. The only time the car even gets hot enough to see this is if I drive into town and hit the wash tunnel. I think I'm looking at a 20 minute idle at least if I want to catch it at home.

When I go the bone yard..I look for VW Audi cars that have the same misc plug connectors..as they were used on a lot of cars for many years..find a few good ones and cut them from the harness..very cheap and useful to have.

Yea I only found one, paid $1, then lost it. So I'll have to make a trip again soon. The place I go is about 50 minutes away, but they have a deal with a local foreign auto so they get a large amount of Volvo's/VW's/Audi's

UPDATE:
The radiator fan is definitely not coming on. I got a CEL today when the car got hot enough to say, "WHERE DID THE FAN GO??"
What I find odd is, the fan still comes on when I hit the AC switch. So... the system is clearly entirely functional EXCEPT detecting the temperature to turn the fan on. Unfortunately, this likely means i got a bum rad-switch. Although the box says Wahler... this would be the second bad switch I've been sent from this supplier who shall remain nameless for now. It happened to me 3 years ago and I spend 2 weeks diagnosing my Volvo 240 after it wouldn't start due to the faulty switch they sent me, which I presumed to be good.
