Catalytic converter question
When I bought my car (Audi 90 Quattro 1993) 3 months ago a new catalytic converter was intalled, but not from the dealership, from a garage.
Sometimes the warning light on my dash ECS or Emission control system goes on.. Could it be caused by the fact that my catalytic converter is an after market or is it a much more serious problem.. ??$$
Thanks for any help.

Re: Doubt its the converter.
Most aftermarket stock converters are made the same. Some people will tell you about "cheap" quality converters, claiming that the element breaks up inside, but generally this is a result of the company not packing and shipping the product with care - so essentially it would happen to any converter if mishandled.
If the light is telling you something true, remember this... A converter will not fail on a car other than for two reasons. One, you live in the rust belt and it rots off, or two, something else caused it to fail - Bad 02 sensor, other lean or rich condition, etc. SO what might have happened is the problem that caused the original converter to fail has not been fixed.
Situations like these can become problems when you are on the "service" side of the desk. I've been in the exhaust industry for quite some time, and I've seen situations where customers want their converter fixed, but don't want to pay for the problem that caused it - like, an 02 sensor causing the car to run too rich and plugging the converter. So downward the problem goes until the converter fails again and the customer tried to blame the part. Man, it can really be a headache to service managers trying to be honest. Good luck!

Re: I can, it's nothing special.
The wife drives it. It's the bluish/purple color, whatever the hell they call it. 1.8t tip. Fun car to drive, I might K04 it when I get some skrill. We'll see. It's begging for some nice wheels, but the wife says as long as the one's on there roll she doesn't care. O well.
