Does anyone have info on the '01 Passat GLS?
I am thinking about getting one with about 50k on it. I was wondering if these cars have any common problems. It is the 1.8T 5sp. Also if anyone has any links on reliability for them? Wanted an A4 but too much money

Re: Same as front trac A4. Control Arms, Coil Packs, engine oil sludge.
What happens with the control arms? Ignition coils? and internal sludge in the motor? AND do you think I should choose another car or is it still a good choice?

Front control arms go bad real easily, usually by 60K miles. It's best to replace
all eight of them at once. ($600 a set AM). See ECS Tuning's web site. Coil packs are a widespread problem on 2001 Passats and A4s. Audi and VW had a recall on them. With respect to sludge, Audi/VW has recommended a new oil filter to go with their extended Oil Change interval.
