Default duelling temp. sensors

1989 90 10v.

The inexpensive and plentiful temp. sensor that goes where the upper radiator hose goes into the block is this:

But.

What is this, is it different, and where does it go? Is it even on my engine? It is greatly more expensive, quite rare, and is visually different.

And if my car indeed even has both, could someone describe what each does, technically? Including where the data is actually going from each sensor?

Thank you!

Default

Several different types of those thermal sensors are made. With A/C, with or without a catalytic converter, diesel engine..so forth.

Here in the USA the part number you need is (I think) 034906161. If yours is black/dark brown.

You may need to remove the old one. Audi was good at putting part numbers on those. See if the link helps..look at #10

If the part in 034906161 it is available and very inexpensive. About $5
