I dread to ask...CQ windshield?
Hey all,
Been a long time without my CQ (I still miss it) but since my brother has taken command, he's managed to get pulled over for the cracked windshield that happened about 5+ years ago!
Last I knew, windshields were near impossible to find for the CQ. The local dealer SAId they could get them, but that they're in the neighborhood of $600+. Have there been any breakthroughs in the last year during my absence?
Also, he killed BOTH window regulators within 2 weeks of each other. I rebuilt the pass. side once, so I knew what I was in for (regulator and those little rubber motor mounts). However, the driver's side one had some damage to the frame, as well. The parts of the regulator cable housings that 'clip' into the frame had become loose and beat the crap out of the metal 'clamp' portions of the frame. I managed to rig them in (ie: wireties) so that the window will stay up.
Has anyone been faced with and/or come up with a good fix for this? I'd say I could make new ones and weld them on, but one of the glass-retaning bolts WILL NOT come out...and has since been stripped, partially drilled, etc. :/
Thanks everyone, and do your best to keep these GREAT cars up and running...for I might want another CQ in a couple of years.

I think
I can get you a spare window frame. A friend had a Coupe and for some reason the PO cut the cables. He bought a complete frame with glass and cables. I think he still has the old one, if you could steal the pieces off it you need. I can ask him.
As for the glass, it IS impossible to find, but STFA, Regen found a source and all the info is in his thread.

Audi _may_ have a few left in canada...
Tony:
Audi recently reduced the price from over $900 to about <$350 each for their Sigla windshields...
I know that 4 of the 5 US remaining stock were purchased at that price, but there may be a few left in Canada....
I got mine through Mac at Clair Parts Connection....
Good luck!!!

Cool guys, thanks.
I'll look into Clair Parts and ask the local dealership about the Canadian Siglias, and ask a local installer to contact Vericon in MN to if they have any and for how much.
As for the frame, squid...I'll let you know if I need it.
Thanks again, a great help as always.

Ordered!! As an FYI, Audi has 6 (well, 5 now) in North America for a list of ~$500...
...but they can be had for less if you go through the right medium.
Maybe someone should buy a few and start the 'CQ Windshield Preservation Socioty'. :P

What a difference!
Last August (a year ago) they were over $1000 from Audi. Even my discounted price was like $963. Guess you can't count on anything from Audi.
I have been collecting windshields since having so much trouble getting mine. I have 1 brand new one in the box and three used ones. I should be good for awhile.
