Default ISV and MAF question...

My ISV is "out of spec", but it idles fine. The idle drop/jump stopped a few weeks ago. Wouldn't there be more signs that it was bad?

My MAF is also "out of spec". Why would my MAFs keep breaking? This will be the 2nd time I have had to replace it. It's getting quite annoying and expensive. 1st time it broke I had a K&N cone filter. I put the stock airbox back in with the new MAF. The MAF gets visibly dirty... would this be causing them to go bad? Instead of spending ~$500 on a new one I guess I'll be going with UrS4s S3 MAF.

Looks like I'll be spending alot of dough to get all this crap fixed.

Yes, I know... gotta pay to play.

Default But you've still got the K&N panel filter in the stock box right??

I heard that if you over-oil your K&N, it leaves deposits on the sensor - damaging it.

I have a K&N drop-in as well, but I haven't had any problems so far.

Default I haven't oiled the panel filter ... dropped it in the way it came.

And it didn't seem to be over-oiled from the K&N factory when I got it.

I guess I'll be putting a FRAM air filter in for the rest of my life. So annoying!

I think I'm going to switch back to OEM filter as well..don't want to risk messing up my MAF either.

Default Yeah, I would be VERY interested in that....

Just curious ... do you know if it's still in working order? Are all the ISVs the same for '93 -'95 90's? How old is it?

Thanks, this would save me a butt-load of money. I may try soaking mine in carb cleaner sometime this weekend to see if that takes care of the problem, or would it still be "out of spec". I'm not exactly sure what "out of spec" means, but shops certainly like using that term.

Default You guys got me worried now.. :(

although **knock on wood** i have had no issues with my K&N filter and MAF but that filter sure is fairly oily. Everytime I take it out to clean it, my hands get really oily and slimey (sp?)..hmmm...maybe time to go back to stock.

https://forums.audiworld.com/12v/msgs/15315.phtml</a

I bet cleaning will do. The "out of spec" term really does throw people off. I guess a better way to get you to hand them your cash...

clean it first and see what happens..If not, then hurricane-nate's ISV is your next option.

Default Yep, I'm looking for my stock filter when I get back home.

I could be using this money for RS2 lights! but Noooo, my MAF has to go and crap out on me.
