Default Mike tip had a question about cams

I was wondering if it changed you idle very much and if you car shakes? ALso where did you buy them from and can you tell if there is much performace gain with the cams? How much HP woudl you estimate? Thanks Adam

Default Re: cams

I have 2 Schrick cams, from Schrick of Germany.

They are '262' cams.

They dropped my idle about 200 rpm. No shakes.

Purchased from Shrick in Germany.

Performance gain is very mild. "Noticable" but very mild. Also its only above 3500 rpm they kick in. 8-10hp?

Makes me curious of BLAU's "272" cams?

The 272 cam gave me a more noticable increase in high rpms, but it makes my car shake a bit

Default Re: The 272 cam........ on what model & year Audi? Mines the V6 motor.

I had the 272 in my 86 Coupe, 5 cylinder, and it ran fine.

What do you mean by "shake"? Lobe over? Blub-blub like?

I adjusted my idle screw to compensate on the Coupe.

Default NG 10v on a '90 80q...

so it isn't really comparable to the V6 like you guys were talking about. By shake I just mean a little bit of a rough idle (blub-blub) after it's warmed up (but the idle point didn't change, still around 800). It is very subtle, so passengers don't notice or anything. I can smooth it out by retarding the timing a touch, but then I loose some of the power . . . so I'm willing to live with the slightly less smooth idle and use more advanced timing, unless you have some insider tuning tips that I didn't figure out that makes it all work better The Bentley is vague in this regard, so I just improvised.

ps - I forgot my new sig didn't include what kind of audi I have, so I changed it to avoid confusion.

Is there any truth to the rumor that a performance cam could cause problems with exhaust emissions tests?
