Default my fuel pump is dying

My fuel pump in my '88 80 quattro is on its last leg and I'm curious to know if I should tackle the project myself or leave it to the pros. What tools would I need and where's the access to the fuel tank?

Default You tank is behind your rear seat, but I don't know if the pump is in there.

I thought it was on the frame rail.?

Default Fuel pump on that car is underneath the car on the drivers side....

...just in front the the rear wheel. The fuel pump, accumulator and fuel filter all sit there together.

No special tools needed to change it. Just make sure you relieve the fuel pressure before loosening the fuel lines!!

HTH!!

So it's pretty easy? How do I relieve the fuel pressure? Any other worries?

To relieve fuel pressure: 1) Pull fuel pump relay 2) Crank car over a few times!! It's easy!!

Default Two more "tricks" came to mind after a few mintues......

1) Make sure the car is low on fuel. You want as little head pressure as possible when you swap pumps.

2) When you go to swap pumps get everything ready first. Get the "out" hose and the clamp on the "in" hose loose. Have the new fuel pump laying there ready to go in. Then take the old pump off and quickly install the new one. This will allow very little fuel to escape during the change!!

HTH!!

Default fuel pump brand pricing

audiquattroparts.com quotes the pump at 189.95. That seems really cheap compared to pumps offered elsewhere, so I'm wondering about quality. Any recommendations?
