well... on mine the error code light is under the drivers side dash right by the door and there's both a black and a white connector.. one has sides that go in on an angle and the others got edges that go in on an angle (if that makes any sence.. (you'd know to see it)

Don't LED's only work with one direction of flow, like a diode (they are "light emitting diodes after all...)?

BOTH... you hook the light across the top of the black to the bottom of the white and a switch from the top of the white to a ground.. and remember.. what cuatrokoop said... it IS a diode make sure your switch/light is assembled right

Default A is beige B is Black....

the top of the plug has the angled gooves in it so it clips to the slot which none of them seem to be clipped to.
I did the whole ****ing thing last week and got a constant LED signal. No flashes. I think it was because I shorted out the two wires and popped the fuse. The car runs fine so I have opted not to mess around with it anymore.
Although it is tight in there and very easy to do exactly what it says not to do on 20v.org, the part about not touching the two A wires. I skinned one of the wires behind the plug to clip the aligator to, it makes it harder to accidentally touch the two together that way.
have fun!
