Default Repairing a shift shaft leak (revisited)

My CQ is (well, was leaking) oil from the shifter shaft...at the rate of about 1/4 every 9-12 months...
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~absolutcq20v/CQ/leaky_shiftshaft_seal.JPG">

I've heard, from reliable sources, that this seal Is and IS NOT replaceable w/out splitting the housings. So which is it, any BTDTs are welcome. Thanks in advance.

PS - Hope to work on the coupe this w/e...finally. Will check back next week w/ pics if I do.

Default altogether easy fix with a thin collet wrench and a Dowty ring...

Just bend the neck of a collet wrench 90* over near it's head. Drill then slot the handle. Use a Dowty ring of appropriate ID and drill/tap the trans case for a M6x1 bolt to hold the collet wrench. Then disconnect linkage from shifter. Slip dowty ring over shaft. Press collet wrench jaws against outer collar of dowty ring and while pressing hard against dowty ring tighten bolt on collet wrench handle. Double slam-dunk easy, non-intrusive lifetime cure.

Default <googles 'collet wrench', 'dowty ring', etc>

So basically, the seal can be pulled out and around the shaft...and a new one installed reverse as removal? Similar to replacing the cam/crank seals when doing a TB job?

I don't have the ETKA in front of me, happen to have a p/n?

Thanks for the input. :P
