Default Check this link....

Henry, What fuel are you using in your car? Do you usually buy Regular and what brand?

I've found Chevron Premium (93 octane) to run the best. My car (same engine, injection system) also runs just fine on a 50-50 mix of 89 & 93 octance. Just alternate filling 1/2 the tank with one or the other.

Finally, if you do decide to tear into the injectors, a web site shows the process:

1988-1991: 80Q, 90, 90Q Engines

Default Is your engine four or five cylinder?

A miss on a four is much more noticeable.

I had an Audi with a four. Whenever the miss problem became apparant again, the problem was solved by using a bottle of Techron injection cleaner.

The link I posted is for a I-5 cyl engine, but the process would be very similar for a four.

Default Re: Is your engine four or five cylinder?

I wish it was missing but it cuts out some times on the way home. It is a 4 cylinder. I put some Techron injection cleaner in it when i changed the fuel filter but I will put more in it or buy the top dollar stuff also It runs good most of the time and I like the car but If it is going to cost more to keep it up I will not be able to keep it

Default Here's another location on the same web site: a Poor Running Checklist...

That has lots of good tips for these cars.

If you are running the lowest grade fuel, it is prob no surprise that it misses. When you say "cut out", do you mean a complete loss of power like the engine takes a big gulp? That sounds more like a slug of air in your fuel line (or drop of water from condensation).

When I had my 4cyl Audi, I regularly added a 1/2 bottle of Heat at every winter fill-up. And Techron every 3 months or so. And never under 89 octane. (specs called for 91. 87 is way too low.)

Hope this helps. Where are you located? Is the car in good condition other than the miss?

Poor Running Checklist
