Default RS2 turn signals, first attempt today to get the turn signals to work.. Electrical engineers here??

I went to radio shack and took a whole bunch of resistors outside with me while me and the guy tried to figure out how to get the turn sig not to flash 3x a second... Resistors don't work in this situation, they just make the light dimmer. SO- some people were saying that you have to wire in something to make it flash at the same speed as stock... What is it?

??

OH- the old flasher bulb is a dual filament, 5w 12v bulb. The new one is a single filament, 5w 12v bulb... Whadda f*ck??

Measure current (amps) and resistance (ohms) of the stock bulb while its flashing. Match that to the RS2 city/corner light.

For the CQ, the DOT bulb is a 12v dual filament, album lists it as a 26.9w high and 8.3w low. Interestingly, the headlamp is a 50w low 70w high.

For the '93-98 cars, bulb is a 12v 5w low 21w high.

The ellipsoids have a single 12v 5w filament in them, which is why it flashes fast.

Ohms law: V=(i)(R), you need to find R, resistance. You need to trick it into thinking its the 21w setting. R = V/i, (12v)/(21w) = 0.571 Ohms of resistance. You have 2.4ohms right now. Wire resistors in parallel to the bulb, not series, to decrease the resistance. If i did the math correctly, you need, in addition to the 5w bulb, 0.75 ohms of resistance in parallel to it to achieve the 0.571 ohms the turn signal control relay is expecting.

If I didn't do that correctly, someone please correct me, electrical stuff isn't my thing, I really don't like it...

Default Adding a bulb.

I was thinking of wiring in another bulb to give it the resistance. I was thinking a set of sidemarker lights, behind the front wheel on the fender for mine, when I get my lights.
I have not thought through the numbers yet, but I would think you could get it close to the right blink rate.

Default idea

so there is some crazy wiring stuff going on here, and I hope you guys figure it out so I can wire mine correctly. currently I have taped the existing turnsignal bulb behind the parking bulb hole and it works fine for now. however, on a more perm. scheme, why not enlarge the hole for the parkinglightso it fits the stock turnsignal bulb? Just a thought, Id prefer to wire them correctly, but I sucked at the electricity unit in physics last year

Default Go to the A4 forum(B5) and ask for James R. Tell him the problem and hell tell you how to fix it.

When you see the answer just remember you asked. ;-)

Default Audi devil has a good idea........

A Dremel tool in patient hands can make the idea a reality. But take your time. Tap the existing turnsignal wiring and you should be able to make it work. There is enough room inside the unit to do it. The Autocheck I think will work along with this configuration too. Either that or graft a socket into the unit. As before a Dremel tool and a tube 3500lbs plastic epoxy, a little imagination and foresight(not foreskin!) can make ideas into reality.

Default The cutting of the turn sig holes was done already.. Check it out..

"Wire resistors ... to decrese the resistance"

what? resistors add resistance!

Watts are not a measure of current. Watts are the product of voltage and current (W=Vi). Voltage should be static, 12v. So divide your wattage figures by 12 and you get the current draw, in amps.

i.e.
21w = 0.571 amp draw (you would use this instead of "21" for your R=V/i equasion)

Default Resistors can decrease resistance wired parallel.. <more>

Think about it. One path is 1 ohm, the other is .01 ohm. In total the resistance is 1/TR = 1/R1 + 1/R2 for parallel, meaning the total resistance of the circuit would be .0099. Much less than 1 ohm as the original resistance huh?

The reason is that you are giving the current another path to travel in parallel at a lesser cost.

You may want to revisit your physics if you think resistors can only add resistance (thats in series!).

You are right about Watts being a measure of Power and not Current though. V= IR, P= VI, and you can figure out any combination with those formulas.
