Default Steering rack problems

I hit a big pothole with my B4 90 Quattro last week and bent a tie rod and damaged the steering damper. The shop has those items fixed but the steering rack seems to be moving not just side to side but slightly forward and backward. They claim that it's tight to the firewall so that seems to imply that something else is wrong. Any ideas? Do I need a new rack?

Oh yeah, it was also very low on fluid after the pothole incident, don't know if that could be the cause or effect of the steering rack problem.

All advice appreciated, thanks!

Default Re: Steering rack problems

Get the front end of the car on jackstands and look at the rack while you have somebody else turn the steering wheel for you.

Chances are you damaged alot more than your front suspention. $$$$$!
