Sunroof flutter problem

Sunroof flutter problem
When I open my sunroof, I get a loud humming, and the whole roof shakes. It kicks in at abotu 30-40 mph, and I can stop it by touching the wind deflector.
Has anyone else has this problem ?
I've noticed all the new Audi's and VW's have a serrated trailing edge on their wind deflector ? Does that break up the shedding vortices so they don't occur across the whole span at once ?
I was going to add a serrated edge to mine, but wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions.

Re: Sunroof flutter problem
Howdy! I've found that opening the sunroof 3/4 of the way eliminates all noises. At full open above 30mph it is obnoxious, if you pull the deflector down it's even worse. Definitely try the 3/4 open method to eliminate noise.
Cheers!

Re: But I want it open all the way. WAAAAHHHHHH !!!
Solved the problem on the 5kq by adding one of the Autobahn brand accessory smoked plexiglass deflectors. Since the 5kq is dark dark metallic red, it blends in pretty well.
There are universal fit ones available as well, maybe check places like McNeil (or is it MacNeil?) out and see what they have.

That is truly weird - doesn't do it on my 90. However, on my sister's new Solara...
her deflector is only attached on either end - and man, does THAT set up a flutter at speeds above 70 mph! That kind of amazed me for a Toyota.

Re: ake sure all rails, hinges are clean and lubed....my 5000 used to...
...do that cause the deflector would get stuck down. Made my ears pop it was so bad. Anywhos..good luck.
