Default timing belt replacement 2.8V6

My belt needs replacing and I do not have the holding tools recommended in Bentley, can anyone recommend an alternative method?

The dealer. (Even though I hate them). If you don't know what your doing tou can really screw somthing up.

Default yup

line up the crank TDC mark and the cam sprocket flanges as per the picture. Mark all 3 thingees with white-out before you loosen anything. When you put the new timing belt on, have somebody keep an eye on the marks while you put the belt on from THE right (driver's side) and pull tight to gather all of the slack at the tensioner. The belt must be aligned with ZERO tolerace on the teeth so have your helper hold the belt on the cams sprockets to avoid slipping. Once the belt is routed on the tensioner, you can see if you got it right fairly easily. The pictures shows where to measure slack and it should be slightly tighter on the shorter runs of belt. If this tension is correct and the white marks still line up, then you are golden. TIP: remove the eletric fan housing...3 screws on top and two wired up underneath the driver's fender area..there is an electrical bus. Also have a small mirror handy to see the bolts that you are missing on the front of the engine.

Default Don't go to the dealer; you can get those cheaper elsewhere....

I've done them on my 944S I figure I might give these a try, I hate the thought of spending the dealer rates.

I assume this will determine TDC rather than BDC? What about belt life, I do not have the service records, and with 78,000miles am I safe for another 5K?
