Where it gets over 100...
If so, the lower thermostat allows the hot coolant into the radiator at the lower temp.
May not be good for your engine, in colder climates, as the engine needs to reach a certain temp for good combustion and emissions.

I'm in PA and made that mistake.
Now I get a CEL on the highway after about 10mins if the temp is below 70. And I haven't gotten much past the 2nd major line on the gauge yet this year.
