It made my car feel weak, and then eventually not start. FF's are supposed to be changed every 2 years or so.

A over expired fuel filter will "strangle" any engine. They should be replaced according to mileage (app. 50-70k miles).

I agree. I posted this above, they are trying to tell me the fuel filters go bad when the fuel ...
pumps go bad, that it is only pieces of the fuel pump that clogs up the fuel filter.

Does a lot of toilet paper in you toilet effect its ability to flush? The fuel pump is not the only thing that will clog the filter. Every time you fill up, you have the potential to introduce contaminants into your fuel tank. Besides even though gas prices are high as hell, it is still just the same old crap. I have changed my fuel filter recently and I noticed an improvement in performance. My fuel pump is still working just fine.
