Audi A3 2.0 Brake Light housing removal.
I've had the warning light on my 2004 Audi A3 come on for the rear brake light failure. I've removed the small round plug from the wall of the boot on the side where the light is out. I know from other posts, you're meant to remove the nut from the long bolt before removing the brake light housing, but i'm not sure how you go about removing the bolt through the tiny hole now the plug has been removed. With the long bolt sticking towards you i don't see how a socket set would cover the length of the bolt to remove it and you can't get a spanner down the side of it. Surely i don't have to remove the panel in the boot before removing the bolt???
Anyone taken any pics with steps how to do this?

It would seem after visiting halfords to see how it's done it's pretty easy and i misunderstood some of peoples advance about which bolt needed removing.
There are two point in the boot where a cover comes off and reveals a bolt. The highest cover which i'd overlooked is the one related to the brake light. If you have a manual for the car, there are instructions in there as well, but i don't have one for my model thanks to a **** up with the independant dealer i bought the car from.
I've attached some pics of the bolt hole, which reveals the bolt which is actually removed with the screwdriver that comes with the spare tyre kit. The bolt can then be removed and the whole brake light unit can be free'd with a but of a wiggle. The farthest side of the brake light unit can be brought away from the car with a little encouragement with a credit card under the unit. It has to free two plugs that have to be freed. The can be a little stubborn the first time.
