Contemplating A3 Purchase
I'm seriously considering selling my '01 allroad and getting into something "younger" - my allroad has topped 92K miles.
So I've been looking around at as many A3s as I can find and I've started to formulate an idea of what features are important to me.
Before I start obsessing about these select features, I thought I'd ask two questions:
1) Of the features on your car, what can you not live without.
2) Of the features you don't have, which do you wish you had
I've fallen in love with the styling of the s-line model. Do you guys think I'd be disappointed if I didn't buy the s-line. Is the styling difference significant?
My personal list of wanted features are (in order):
Cold Weather
Satellite Radio
Bluetooth
iPod integration
Open Sky
Nav
Also, if anyone finds an A3 deal they'd like to pass along, please do. I think I've seen every last one on Autotrader and Cars.com.
I'm near Kansas City and would be willing to fly to Minneapolis, Denver, Dallas, Nashville, Chicago, Milwaukee for the right one.
Thanks in advance

Mo' gotta have.....
Can't live without:
2.0T
6MT
I had to have the S-Line coming from a TT. The premium was too cushy unless you are going to change out suspension later.
Cold Weather...you're near KC, enough said.
Open Sky
Leather
Euro mats, again winter here = no contest
Tint, summer here = no contest
You may want to think about Xenons.
Wish I had:
Sometimes I wish I had Bluetooth, but I can live without it. I hate phones. As for the rest, I listen mainly to CDs and read maps, so I don't need any of the other. I miss the homelink but again it's not a necessity. I wish I had quattro but it is not made with the 6MT, and I really don't miss it that much.

Musts - quattro, 6MT or DSG, sports suspension, sports seats.
IMHO, avoid Tiptronic with the 2.0T engine, very laggy.
You'll get a much higher level of handling with the A3 (even the 3.2).
If you get the 2.0T it will be much more buzzy than the allroad, less relaxing on long trips.
And you'll get far reduced interior space and luxury in the A3, make sure you can live with that change.

Must have quattro, 3.2 DSG. Then install a Haldex gen 2 controller upgrade.
I probably wouldn't get Open Sky next time.
Make sure you install the TT euro light switch too.
