Here comes winter -- washing options?
I've only ever washed my cars by hand. During winters, I usually found a do-it-yourself car wash facility, as I was always told to avoid automated car wash stations -- especially those with brushes.
I have yet to find a Milwaukee, WI do-it-yourself car wash facility. So my question is: are so-called "brushless" automated car wash stations ok? If not, any recommendations?

detailers also wash cars
you can go to a detailer who will have an inside facility and ask them just to wash it and they do it by hand, just like you would.
otherwise, I usually wash my car as long as its over 35 degrees and the water wont freeze in the hose or on the car.

I'll wash outside close to freezing temps with hot water in the wash bucket.
Makes a big diff.
But once cold enough for the water to freeze on the car or in the hose, I'm out of ideas.
Either wash with antifreeze (I kid! I kid!) or move down here to Houston.

brushed = torture chamber; brushless = still painful; touchless = no good because you still need to
drive through that metal track/railing thing that could potential scrape your wheels...

Time to find some friends living in apartment or condo
Got a friend living in apartment with underground parking, it provide heated water facility for tenants and I'll drop by in the winter for some nice warm baths to my car

Re: "Brushless = grit-laden flapping rugs = sandpaper
Years ago, I had a new car washed in one of these "brushless" car washes. It came out with 3" wide scratched swaths, same width as the woven flapping "cloths" My throry is that these things hold grit, or themselves are abrasive.
Never had the same problem with the plastic brushes, which have no mesh/weave to hold dirt. It just washes away.
Never again wiill I take a car of less than 5 years old into one of these sanding machines..

Game, set, match.
I just found a detailing place that does hand car washes for $15. Just found a new friend.
Thanks everyone.

Yep, if you're lucky to be in an area where it goes above freezing fairly often during the winter
you can always wash by hand.
The landlord where I live shuts off the outdoor faucet, so I can't use it. So, I cased a nearby non-gated condo community to find an outdoor faucet somewhere in a "public" area that remains active during the winter (they may have special piping that won't crack in freezing temps). I bring with me a short hose along with my cleaning supplies and just use that. I can soap up, wash, and rinse my car in about 20 minutes. Then I drive over to a nearby parking spot to dry it off with the chamois. I've been doing that for two years and I've never been hassled.
