Default HIGH fuel prices in England HAVE to be STOPED!!

here is a few other points doing on in a forum i was looking at today ... what do u think?

Just been watching the news and once again those barmy french fishermen have brought the country to a stand still, and what for the price of fuel. Did it work? Yes. Are there fuel prises lower than the British? Yes. Then why the hell have we the British tax payer let it get so expensive? It's now reaching the point where fuel will be £1 per litre. How can we allow this to happen. We should take a stand. But the reason we don't is because we don't have enough support thats why. Those barmy lot stopped work went miles to main ports and blocked them. They were prepared to stay there as long as it took. Couldn't we do something like that. I know that if we went as far as they did that we'd get locked up. The government really don't like people who stand up for there rights and say what the government don't want people to hear. It would be nice if someone came up with an idea that could work.

Just a thought.

I Have always said that it would only take around 10 cars to tottaly f*** london up for a day.

A s***load of main roads meet near me (A1, A406to name one junction) - all within a few miles of eachother. Everyone that has ever come into london via the A1 knows how many cars pass through the A1 A406 junction (the A1 and the M1 both end up at this junction to name two). WIth around 10 cars it could be blocked. With 100 cars it could be blocked, and noone could move us. WIth 200 cars the whole north part of the A406, the A1 into C. London, the A10 into C. London and the A12 again into C London could all be blocked and out of reach of law enforcement. If these roads somhow managed to get blocked on a monday morning from say 7am to 7pm, the offices in Central london and the city would be half empty. Chaos.

Just have a look at the Map.

Default Yep but the problem is...

The French authorities have always succumbed to peoples demands - and as long as they do, people will get their way and continue to strike - after all the Parisians aren't upset with the actions - it doesn't affect them !! It just affects trade with England.

In England the police would be in and numerous arrests would be made (see Coal miners strike). I agree with the sentiment of the fishermen etc. just unfortunate that we are the easiest to affect - after all you cant imagine the farmers and fishermen blocking all links with Italy !!

Fuel prices in England have to be stopped, its just sad that the government see motorists as an easy target because of the vocal minority who believe cars are the root of all eveil (instead of buses, trains and trucks that produce over 90% of all carcenogenic (SP?) particle emmisions acording to the AA) and see speeding motorists as the easiest target, again despite the police's own figures that say speed is only a factor in 5% of accidents.

I agree that a child may have a much better chance of survival at 20mph as opposed to 30 or 35mph - impose a limit of 20mph outside schools then, dont change the limit of dual carriageways to 40mph instead of 70mph as they have done in the North West of England near Warrington and then setup speed traps daily on the same road !!

Money earner for the police??? let me think about it.

Anyway rant over !!<p>Rick B

Default There is a bit of a difference, I think...

First, off I don't live in the UK, and therefore don't have intimate knowledge of the situation, except for the fact that it is VERY expensive.

I think the French farmers have had a huge following and have had some effect over the years. Throw in the fact that the French are well, self-centric, and you have a pretty good chance that these sort of blockages will work.

There was a bit of coverage regarding the French farmers here in the U.S. on National Public Radio, and it seems that the French are really interested in things that are French and intend to keep it that way (don't ask anybody in the McDonalds why they aren't eating baguettes and Cheveré instead though).

I think the stand-in is because the fuel prices is inhibiting the farmers to compete with larger companies that are globalizing the French market economy, and they aren't in the least bit interested in that (at least on the surface).

I just had a two month holiday in Europe a couple of months ago, and I do have to say that having a car is a bit of luxury, and to an extent that public transportation is much better (The tube is an exception; rediculous fees and no 24hr. service) as there is less geographical area to be covered.

Here in the U.S. we do enjoy really low prices for fuel, when compared to Germany for instance. We also seem to be covering a lot more ground on our daily outings. I personally wouldn't mind higher fuel prices to put an end to those ugly SUV's once and for all.

However, you do get the RS4 and A3/S3's. You win some and you lose some!<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3559"><img src="http://www.jyoteen.com/audiworldsig/rips4.gif" border="0"></a>

But part of the problem is that not everyone lives in London. Public Transport in London is fairly good and with the traffic problems - is really the only way to get around, despite the crowdedness during rush hour - mind you try Tokyo!!

Outside of London public transport is comical. A train journey from Liverpool to London costs £140.00 ($210+) which is only 200 miles away !!

For me to get to my office (7 miles) takes 2 hours by public transport as opposed to 15 minutes by car!! Unfortunately the UK government see the motorist as an easy target. Maybe we need to get organised like the french fishermen and do something about it..

Viva la resistance (to petrol prices)!!<p>Rick B
