Default MIL lamp coming on again

This is starting to annoy me. Last time it was due to the gas cap not being on tight enough. Now whenever I fill the car up with gas I make sure the cap is clicked 3 or 4 times. Still got a "make sure to close the gas cap" type message on a couple of occasions, but that would go away. Tonight on the way home the MIL came on again. Now it won't turn off. WTF?

Am I the only one here that has been experiencing this problem?

Default Maybe it's the fuel line.

I had a car once that came out of the factory with a longer fuel line than normal. It kept pinching so the engine light would come on. Just a guess. Good Luck!

Default The code for the gas cap can be numerous things

The code isn't really for the gas cap thats just the most common thing to cause it.. There is a whole intricate system of lines, pumps, and chambers that store fuel vapor. So usually the first assumption is its the gas cap since that is what it is 99% of the time.. Just to back have them scan it and see whats up.. IF its the same code they will know this time to check more in depth.. The biggest problem is the first time they are basically told not to waste time and just say its the gas cap.. VW had instructed dealers to charge customers for leaving the cap loose so they would take it more seriously and check... IF a tech diagnosed a car for 2 hours and it was just the cap.. they would sometimes bill back the dealer on the warranty work..

Default Thanks. I think I'll wait until the 5k mile servicing

before having them check it out. I don't feel like spending another morning at my dealer. I've got about another 700 miles or so to go. I was told as long as the MIL doesn't blink it's not a big deal. Any thoughts?

Default Re: Yeah blinking means immediate problem..

Thanks again. I'll keep an eye on it but I figure it should be okay until I rack up the additional 700 miles considering I can do that in a couple of weeks of commuting.
