see my other post in this topic. But you can get the same MPG out of both engines.

I've had my '09 S5 for about a month now. I've taken it to work about 3 days a week, which is a 30 mile commute. Roughly 2/3 is on the highway, and the remaining 1/3 on local roads about 35-40 mph with some lights. My computer usually says around 24.5 mpg by the time I get to work. On a recent trip down to Atlantic City, I managed 26.5 mpg.

However, when I refilled the tank and calculated the mileage based on the odometer and amount of fuel put in the tank, it was more like 20.5 mpg. I see most people have a discrepancy of about 1-1.5mpg, but mine is over 4! Anyone know why? Or did my attendant not fully top off the tank? (I live in NJ, so I don't pump my own gas).

Also, has anyone done a comparison of 91 vs 92 vs 93 octane? I typically go to Wawa, which has 92. Audi recommends Shell, but they are usually 20-30 cents more per gallon than any other gas station. The one take I filled with Shell, I noticed no difference in idle, acceleration, smoothness of the engine, or gas mileage.

I haven't filled up with anything but 93 and that I usually do at Turkey Hill (don't ask why they are considered 'top tier' for fuel, but they cost the same as the 92 stuff at Wawa or Sheetz stations. I don't think it would make anything more than a negligibledifference and doubt if you could feel a performance/economy difference either.

I just made my maiden out-of-town voyage, and fill up the tank full. 75% highway driving, 25% curvy mountain road driving (some steep and hilly). At 308 miles, I refueled and replenished 14 gallons. This translates to 22 MPG. Not bad.

Thing is - I put 5 gallons of Exxon 93 and don't know what my dealer put for the remaining 12 gallons.

Today I put in Shell and I'm getting 390 Miles to go. Then, I traveled 35 miles and still have 365 miles, so it seems that Shell 93 might give me 400 miles on a tank. Let's see.

I have not pushed the car but on two occasions, hitting 103 and 105 mph, since there's less than 500 miles on it.
