HELP !! AUDI A5 2009 3.2L RATTLE / TIC NOISE ... TIMING CHAIN ?? VIDEO INSIDE
Hi,
I need your opinion guys , I have a 2009 A5 3.2L , 99,000 km and I've been having this Rattle / Tic noise since a couple of months (4-5) I always thought it was a loose heat shield and it didn't really bother me so I decided to leave it like that till next maintenance appointment at the garage ...
I got it in last week for oil change and asked mechanic to check that noise as well ... turns out it's my timing chain that's loose and I have to get both upper chains replaced 2k + job , now before putting in that kind of money ... I wanted to have a second opinion to see if it might be something else like a heat shield or cat ?
The car runs fine no CEL , at start up you can hear the rattle for a second and then the car is running good in idle ... when I reach 1200 RPM and only at 1200 RPM I hear the Rattle/Tic sound if I leave my pedal steady , if I go down to 1100RPM or up to 1300RPM it stops ...
Rattle seems to come from under the car , here is the video.
Thanks for the help !

Sounds like exhaust so maybe cat gone bad... Then again it's a bit too loud. Might be something else but it doesnt have that loose chain sound imo. Google chain tensioner problems and compare sounds. You should go to some other repair shop to get second opinion by someone.
This is what tensioner problem sounds like, that tick noise in the background isn't tensioners, that loud tractor sound is.
