Wassup with North America's "brake dust silver" factory wheels?
Saw an A5 with S line (and therefore with Y-spoke wheels) at the dealer today. Is brake dust silver "in"? Is this just a N. America thang? What's next? The new "Road Grime Grey" exterior color?

Back in the day, Audi use to ship the cars inside covered trucks. The new shipping co.
just stacks them out there exposed to the elements not to mention how the port drivers might treat cars while they are in their possession. I'd say the dust could be from just about anything.

Cha-ching *that* was the finish (light anthracite)
The same uglification was done to the N.A. TT 10 arm rims. It's like AoA got tired of listening to owners complain about brake dust getting on their shiney rims. So the factory just paints rims in brake dust grey. Presto, can't see the brake dust any more.

I think it's a broader trend than just Audi.
Lots of tuner cars, and now factory cars, are coming with this color of finish on the wheels and even the trim. It occurs to me that it caught on after the beginning of the combat/stealth look for modified cars (starting with black wheels) started to get popular around four or five years ago. The Acura TL Type-S is one example of an OEM car with the titanium/anthracite wheels and accents.
