Did you get the times from other cars? I wonder which cars were doing better. I realize that driving skills matter here more.

trac control off. Instructor advised me to leave it off so when I made a mistake I would know when I made a mistake.
He he was an old salty race car driver. Used to race beetles and rabbits in the 60s-80s. He loved the S5, although he called it a “cheater car” for how well the awd handled. He was blown away with how I/the car could get into trouble and recover without loosing too much time.

It it seems the cars of choice for this are Miata’s/MX5s. Small, light, and nimble was the way to go. S2000s did well too if the driver could keep it stuck to the ground. There was an M4 that was a beast.
My best time was a 71.6. Went from 75, to 74, 72, then 71 so I was happy. I knew where I could improve and with a couple more runs know I could bring it into the 60s. The average students were in the high 60s low 70s. The fastest students out there were in the high 50’s. Slowest out there were in the 80s. Most everyone does this a lot. You can do the sanctioned race days but only get 4 runs in the day. The class training sessions give you much more seat time for practice.
Its crazy, the fastest cars were the ones that didn’t look like they were going fast. Just smoothly running through the course. No tire screech.
The instructors drove too, one of those guys put down a 52 in his fiberglass Mazda kit car.
There was a hellcat that was in the low 70s. Shows HP isn’t everything.

2018 S5 Sportback. Tried autocross and did the novice school. 4th out of 48 on the speed charts. 1) modded S2000; 2) modded Civic; 3) Subura WRX STI. I also had the traction control off. The turbo lag was terrible, I had to pick the throttle up before apex so it would accelerate at the right moment. Obv not an autocross model for the serious competitor, but I still thought it did fairly well considering the size. Got some props from a handful of people for wheeling a car that size.
