Default Audi pre sense and parking

May be a dumb question, but I was hoping you guys can help answer this. I’m currently driving a prestige S5 SB. I was parallel parking with all the parking sensors on. I was backing into the space and straightening the car out to be parallel with the curb. While this was happening the sensors were beeping more frequently(I’m assuming to let me know I’m getting closer to the curb) and all of a sudden I felt the brake engage. It startled me as I thought I curbed the tire or rim, but I had plenty of room. My question is if you’re moving slowly with the parking sensors on and the sensors detect you’re close to contact, will the brakes engage automatically as per some automated safety feature like pre sense? Thanks!

Me too, definitely want to disable it, but my sales person strongly recommend this feature, just too scary at that moment.

Given how close I come to my garage entry, I don’t get auto breaking. The beeping is annoying but you get use to it in known situations.

Instances where you you don’t expect beeping stand out and quickly alert you to potential danger/hazard.

False alarms in a restaurant drive-thru is a pain, although that’s rare for me.

The first time this happened to me in a parking lot my heart dropped in my stomach. I sat in my car and thought “what the hell did I hit!” I quickly parked the car, jumped out expecting my bumper to be damaged and seeing whatever I hit that I had not seen backing up. I was relieved to see no damage but was perplexed for like a month. The mystery was solved when it happened again and then the light bulb went off.

With that that being said I would not turn it off. I believe you can reduce the volume of the sensor beeps cause that can be obnoxious. But why would you ever turn of something that would prevent you from hitting something or someone?

Default glad I passed on driver assistance...

The AI in these cars would need to much stronger before I'd accept the car braking or steering on its own. The beeping and warning to check my surroundings in parking situations where there is no danger is annoying enough. I'm reminded of the fable of the boy who cried wolf: repeated unnecessary warnings will lead me to ignore the car just when I shouldn't.

Addendum: Now I'm confused. My car has rear pre-sense and I think it slammed on the brakes while parking today. I was sure I hit something, but couldn't find any evidence. I thought if I didn't have the advanced driver assistance package it wouldn't automatically brake, but now I'm wondering if it will when backing up?
