I was also surprised to find out that direct sensors were not included or even part of an option package, it would be nice To have. But in practice I found that it doesn’t make too much of a difference,, Audi’s system is great at telling you which tire is low, which is enough for my purposes.

They are ~$150 each from Audi. I'd rather check on my own for free.

If I had a dollar for every thread complaining about indirect TPMS, I would have bought an R8.

X2!

Our Audi’s are designed for “Driving Enthusiasts” not old people (excluding a few of us) so be an enthusiast, buy a good, accurate tire gauge and check your tire pressures every couple of weeks.

When the sensors first came out about 10 years ago, they were $300 to $400 each, the price has came down recently, but still in the hundreds.

It now comes standard on the 2019 RS5s. On the 2018s, it was an option available together with an expensive package that included the carbon ceramic brakes.

I’m one of the regular driver.
Please education me..
Audi doesn’t give you the pressure level for each wheel.
i have to check it myself say monthly ?
So I have to buy a tool for meaturing, it doesn’t have with the car, does it?
Need to add it to a list to buy before picking the car in May

Audi — in some of their cars, but not all — use an indirect method of tire pressure monitoring. These models do not have “TPMS” sensors in each wheel, instead they monitor revolutions on each wheel (and there is a much better explanation that someone may list for you, but the important thing to remember is there are no TPMS sensors in your wheels) and look for anomaly’s between the tires to signal the driver that there is a potential tire pressure problem.

As such, it’s ALWAYS a good idea to manually check your tire pressures a couple of times a month — especially with changes of season and higher / lower ambient temperatures. It’s also a perfect opportunity to visually check your tire tread and make sure they are wearing evenly and you don’t see any bent wheels / sidewall bubbles. Due Diligence as a car owner / driver.

Audi does NOT provide a tire gauge — that’s your responsibility as an owner / driver. My personal recommendation would be a tire gauge like this one:

Accu-Gage @ Amazon Accu-Gage @ Amazon

In my experience, Accu-Gage tire gauges are very accurate and very well made, but that’s just my experience. As always, YMMV.
