BMW's new inline 6's are insane. The S5/RS5 really need a power bump

that said I'd love to see a large bump for the next generation! With BMW adding AWD to the m3/m4 and mercedes adding AWD to the next gen C series AMG, those of us that want AWD will have more options and AWD being equal, HP and TQ come into play more.
Yeah AWD was their trump card, and now they lost that. It's not like it's that hard to get bigger power numbers with the engines we have right now. Just make drivetrain components beefier and up the boost.

But sadly Audi is dropping the ball on "leap-frogging". Look at the 2020 S6 more of a backwards leap. Dropping it to a V6(444HP) with marginally less power...when it has to compete with the M550(523 HP) and M5(600HP) until the RS6 arrives and that is a whole other thing since it is an avant. Both BMW's have AWD now, so Audi doesn't even have that in its bag of tricks any more.
It would not surprise me to see the S5/RS5 drop back next gen to a turbo 4 with better emissions and mpg vs. HP.

I don't care how many cylinders it takes to make the power as long as they make it. The next C63 is rumored to be a hybridized version of the A45 inline 4 making 500+ and that's fine with me. The RS6/7 should be fine with their 600hp but the Audi 3.0T and 2.9TT can really use considerably more power. Wouldn't surprise me if the new S6 slightly out-edges the previous V8 one but I wouldn't expect it to do so by much.

Cylinder count...that's fine, I understand...but point was they didn't move the HP forward in the next gen S6 and it will be around for 5+ years before the C9....whereas the M550 went from 456HP to 523HP and is already available...where will it be in 5 years. S6 is not even in the US yet.
The same may end up applying to the B10 S5/RS5....

I agree with you that the S6/7 will be underpowered for the next 5 years.

As for me, I'll just buy the Gran Coupe when it's ready.

I think Audi has cut its R&D budget to the point that is has conceded the performance wars to BMW and MB. More R&D resources are being devoted to EV, so I don't expect significant increases in gas engine power going forward; e.g., Audi recycling the EA839 from the RS5/RS4 for the new S6/S7.

This was a big reason why I bought an M340i (power and driving dynamics). I'll be the first to admit that I like the styling of my S5 SB better, but not by much. However, the delta between the performance is far greater in my opinion.

Audi could have done so much more too the RS5. To be honest, I don't see it as a huge step up compared to my S5. Even the previous generation F8x M3 Comp was a massive leap forward compared to the current G20 M340i. The S5 should have gotten a power bump for the refresh.

You should really change your username if that's the case
