Finally pulled the trigger and did the carbon fiber mirror caps on my Daytona Gray A5. Purchased for $147 with shipping off eBay from China. I'm really impressed with the quality and shipping speed, purchased on 7/9, arrived 7/19.
Pretty easy install and looks great.
I picked up and installed the ECS Tuning version of these CF caps. Fitment was just OK. But for 1/3 the price (~$250 vs. $700+ OEM) I guess I'm willing to deal with it. For anyone that cannot deal with some slight fitment issues you may want to get OEM. You mostly do have to look for it to see these. It will be a crap shoot too as fitment issues varied between the two sides also. I give them a 6 out of 10 for fitment.
Clear coat and finish was acceptable, not great. Came with some small pre-installed scratches and swirls (you can see in some of the pics) but I didn't want to bother returning since they weren't a deal breaker. Gets a 6-7 out of 10 for finish.
Would I buy again? Probably just because of the price difference. These defects may not even bother some people so give them a try due to the lower cost. Plus I'm pretty OCD
Driver side corner did not align well.
Passenger side corner was fine, but slight bulge on this edge.
Blind spot sensor cut out not great looking on one of the sides. Other side was better. There were also some rough edges on the cut outs on this side too.
So it looks like the ones from ebay fits better (and cheaper) than the ones from ECS?
The eBay ones aren’t an OEM fit, but based off those pics, definitely better than the ECS ones. I have no major bulging, the side assist lights were a little tough to get in, but they went in and are flush. It was more of a struggle to get the CF mirror caps to go into the plastic mirror trim upon reassembly then the OEM ones. But both mirrors only took me around 1.5 hours, this was my first time replacing mirror caps. Looking at them, the fit is really good, just not OEM perfect.
Based on other users accounts of the ECS ones, they are coming from China too. ECS probably buys from similar Chinese sellers and just marks them up for their cut. That’s the reason I went with eBay and not ECS, the quality will be the same or better and they are cheaper. For under $150 shipped, it was worth the gamble. It paid off for me at least.
