Order guides have been out for a while and the 2019 are in the dealer systems, so the car can be ordered alright. That's not the issue. The online configurators are always lacking behind, not just with Audi. I'm buying a 2019 C63 S for example, my order is in the system, the first deliveries have already taken place, but mbusa.com still shows the 2018 models. As said, not unique to Audi, but MB doesn't have their cars stuck at the port. They are actually being delivered.

The only scenario I know of for this to benefit you in taxes is if you are writing it off as a business expense... pretty sure the IRS doesn't take kindly to expensive sports cars as business vehicles.

Sales tax is still deductible — if you itemize your taxes and pay sales tax.

Probably stating what you were eluding to... For businesses, the tax law changed at the end of last year. If you bought a car in 2017 and paid more than $15,800, you were driving a "luxury car" according to the law and your depreciation was very limited. For example, a car bought for 40k that was 100% for business had a max depreciation deduction of $15,060 over the 1st 5 years, and 19 years to fully depreciate it.

Basically, the new law sets the so-called luxury automobile limit at $50,000. This means that any vehicle costing $50,000 or less is not penalized by the luxury vehicle limits when using MACRS depreciation. Under the new law, the annual limits are:
  • Year 1, $10,000
  • Year 2, $16,000
  • Year 3, $9,600
  • Year 4 and each succeeding year, $5,760
Of course, the gov't would still rather you purchase a 6000 pound GVWR, as it's easy to instantly depreciate those items via Section 179, but at least the new law gives company cars a chance. This change in law is why I got the S5 instead of something like a Q7.

Like others have mentioned if you want a 2019 you'll be playing the waiting game like everyone else. Its sad there is no communication details on the delay itself from AUDI.

I received an email yesterday that my 2019 RS5 Sportback has went into production. This along with Audi USA updating their website to allow to building of the 2019 RS5/RS5 Sport makes me believe that the vehicles will be launching very soon.

There are quite a few 2018 RS5 coupes sitting on dealer lots in Dallas. It seems that the combination of the coupe body style and the high price of the RS5 have resulted in a slow selling vehicle. Consequently, if you're willing to settle for a 2018, you may be able to get a decent deal in the next few weeks.

Based on the success of the S5 Sportback in comparison to the coupe, I anticipate that the upcoming RS5 Sportback will be significantly more popular.
