Totally agree! The ACC behavior (adjusted in Drive Select > Individual) varies widely between Dynamic, Auto, and Comfort. Definitely experiment with the different modes. After trying both Comfort and Dynamic, I settled on Auto and it works really well for Traffic Jam Assist and long highway drives.

Bottom line, the default mode for the stop start should be my decision, not Audi's. Just like it is on every other car I have driven.

Drive in Individual mode and you can set ACC to be Auto, Dynamic, or Comfort. If you stay in Individual mode, you’ve then set the ACC default setting.

I think that part of the problem is with the MPG estimates. If they allow for the Start/Stop and drive mode defaults to be configurable, they would have to go through testing for each possible combination. No way do they want to spend all that time and money.

My 2017 BMW has different drive modes as well as my friends 2019 Lexus RX and none of them have the start stop set for default
And I think it was emissions brownie points they were going for and not MGP (According to my Audi Genius guy)
I purchased one of those obd11's but I am chicken to use it in case it screws up my warranty.

I have had the car 9 months and still have not trained myself to hit the start stop button after i start the car. But I did teach myself to open the garage door before I shut off the engine, so there is hope.
