Default Low fuel warning has a mind of its own?

2018 A5 Prestige - I had been getting low fuel warning at 60 miles remaining since new. The other day the warning showed up at 75, anyone see that? It was the first time will know if it was fluke at next fill up on Sunday. How about S5 owners?

Low fuel warning is determined by how much fuel is left in the tank. Distance to empty is determined by your current driving conditions and average mpg. But the low fuel warning will always come on at the same fuel level regardless of the estimated distance to empty.

Interesting and makes sense to me. I would have thought there is some kind of sophisticated German engineering float, but mine always come on at exactly 50 miles left on the readout.

Any idea how far back it looks at your average MPG?

Anything to support this?

Current fuel level and distance to empty are both always know by the ECU and displaying the warning based on distance to empty make more sense than based on quantity of fuel left in the tank.

I’ve seen it come on as high as 80 miles to empty.

Look at your fuel gauge when the alert first fires. In my Audis it has always gone off when the needle reaches the little warning tick-mark above empty.

It is also susceptible to fuel sloshing that upsets the measurement, so I can often anticipate that when it is nearing that mark it will alert when I make a sharp turn or drive up a ramp. When I had fuel level senders fail on an older A4, it would alert and clear itself in sync with the fuel gauge needle dropping and rising, with just 5-10 seconds of delay.

I think the mileage estimator is crap, so I just add gas every 250 miles or so. Despite how sophisticated all these monitors are supposed to be, I think the mileage estimates are way off on my car.
