Default S5 exhaust flaps

I was surprise to see that the flap are asymmetrical on the S5 exhaust . So the car can use 1, 2, 3 or all four exhaust outlets?

Anyone have more information on how two flaps are used?

I'd like to know how to leave them open permanently.

What do the valves block exactly, to make that popping sound?

As the diagram shows, the left outlet on the right exhaust is always open and acquires the most soot to be cleaned.

It seems like both innner-outlets are the “soot bearers” on my car, based on this photo:

I found that Eagle One Chrome Cleaner and *very* light steel wool use cleans my tips ***PERFECT***. I do this at least every other week.

Since my tips were ceramic coated when the car was new, I just use a cloth with Windex on it and they clean right up. It’s just wipe with cloth and the soot is completely gone.

I do love Ceramic Coatings — I only wish we had them 50 years ago when I started driving.

Not the exhaust, that is ECU programming. Injects a small amount of fuel when the exhaust valves start to open during low engine load state / rpm change, eg gear changes. Mini explosion = pop.
