Square Bottom Steering Wheel

I bought this RS6 one from Europrice. You do lose the "*" button and also can't use the heated wheel since on the RS6 wheel there is no heated wheel button, it is controlled from the MMI and my RS5 does not have that option on MMI. Maybe with coding could get it? Also airbag is way nicer than my stock one.
Yikes have no idea why picture is so big

Round Airbag
Awesome! A minor issue in my book losing a feature "*" I rarely use.
As long as the RS button functions I really don't care about heat or haptic feedback.
The reason I went with the 2021 flat bottom was because I wanted the round airbag. Let's hope it works. $600 for a new wheel and another $600 for the airbag.

When I was looking for an RS5 in 2021 I almost bought the Ascari launch edition that came with flat bottom wheel but didnt because the carbon fiber package was more impotant to me and also like the Turbo Blue better. My brother ended up buying the Acscari but he prefers leather over Alcantara so sent it out to be rewrapped in leather. When he sold that car in I tried to put it on my car but couldn't get it stop throwing codes. If I had more time probably could have got but he was getting rid of the day after he decided to sell

It's the hands-on detection that was introduced on these new cars that makes using the older wheels problematic.
As for missing the * and Steering Wheel heater button, the Heater element is present in the RS6/RS7 wheels. We just need to know how to switch it on. The Voice Command and the MMI menu are not present in the B9.5 MIB3 software.
However someone with a A6 managed to get the Heating Option to show up on their A6 MIB3 after they retrofitted a Heated Wheel. It wasn't a simple coding change but involved a parameter update. So it's possible. Just that no one has figured this out yet for the B9.5 platform.

I like having my wheels modded and would have liked to have sent out my stock wheel and made it like the one I had on my R8, problem is not sure if that can be done with the hands on feature? Has anyone tried modd'ing a hands on wheel? Still have my stock sitting basement so might be worth sending it out and see what they can do with it.

I'm working with Ask Carbon as we speak on a flat bottom SW for my 2023 S5. I'm being assured that the "hands on detection" and heating will work. I only wanted perforated leather all around. Looking at $1,200. I will post pix when jobs complete. By the way, they will build a wheel to your specs.

The J1158 hands on detection module actually sits in the steering wheel itself, at the base of the airbag cavity. It's not associated with the airbag or airbag harness itself. But the airbag harness is different between versions that support the J1158 and versions that do not (ground eye, etc).

So are they keeping your current airbag and just altering the bottom of the actually steering wheel?
