Default 2.7 engine ID code letters

My 2001 allroad 2.7 engine ID No.starts with the letters "ARE" instead of "APB" or "BEL",I wonder if the cam locking tools which are sold for the "APB" and "BEL" would be suitable for my "ARE" engine.I can't find references to my engine ID code in the net or forums(I'm not in the US).
I found a set of tools at ebay for "APB","BEL" but no mention is made of the "ARE" engine
Thoughts?
Thanks.

After a brief google search, I found no evidence of an Audi engine code ARE. Almost certainly an APB, unless the engine has been changed out (and converted to a non-stock motor.)

The engine code is stamped onto a flat machined onto the cylinder head. (I was thinking engine block, but these are clearly on the head, not the block.) The link below has a picture showing where to find the code. It's pretty much the same on the 2.7T as shown here on the V8. Dig around in there with good lighting, and you'll find it.

Thanks for your reply;allroads sold in Mexico have an engine ID designation which starts with the letters ARE.The dealer's manuals corroborate it;since my concern is basically related to the suitability of the cam locking tool which specifies it is built for the APB and BEL engines,I'm trying to figure out if there could be any differences amongst these engines before I purchase this tool.

you are not looking in the right place. It is not a code starting with...

It is simply a HEAD CODE of three letters.

"The VIN number(engine code and serial number) is on the machined surface on the cylinder block, at the front of the right cylinder bank" Workshop manual

Default Different Market...I get it .

You did put that in the original post and I missed it.

In that case, I don't know. What I would try, if you're talking to a dealer anyway, is to check and see if the tool specified in the shop manual is same on the ARE as on the APB. If you can't get the tool number for the APB, let me know and I'll look it up in the Bentley after work.
