2006 A6 Avant - This was the only way my wife won't miss the AR.
Surrendered my 4-year old AR at end of lease. Not a dent. My wife would have missed it terribly if we had not gotten the new A6 Avant.
The A6 Avant is doing fine. After 1300 miles, the engine has been revved up. A few days ago, it just flexed its muscle and the power thundered. You just have this feeling that 'break-in' is history.
I can honestly say that at this point (1000+ miles), the A6 Avant matches the quickness of the allroad, when the ARs engine was at its fastest after 30,000 miles. At around 500-600 miles on the odometer, the A6 Avant was definitely slower than the AR. Over time, the engine just gets faster.
However, the A6 Avant is smoother at speeds above 100+ MPH, possibly due to the fact that it is a wider and longer vehicle than the AR and cruises with a 6th gear. The AR will be missed, but the A6 Avant helps you get over the AR.

No 3rd row .. Another thing I did not miss about the AR was MPG :)
If we needed the 3rd row, we would have gotten the Q7. If you have small kids, the 3rd rows really help.
The advantage of the A6 Avant over the AR and Q7 is the MPG. I get about 21-22 MPG mix city/ highway driving. I only get 17-18 MPG with the AR, and I understand the Q7 4.2 is 14-16 MPG.
It does put a smile on my face when one full tank on the A6 Avant allows me to drive 430-440 miles around the city and some highway. The AR only gets me 300-315 miles on a full tank.
Next week I will take a long road trip with the A6 Avant and see if I could do 25-28 MPG on highway driving. Other owners said they did. Let's see if I can do 500 miles on one full tank.

With the 2.7T 6 speed I get 24mpg...
on the highway for speeds around 70 to 80 mph. Mixed 21mpg. With the 4.2 tip 21mpg highway and mixed around 19. of course if you push the car more the mpg drops....

Trip computer reading on the A6 is 28-30 MPG
it's usually higher than the actual.
Just like the allroad. My allroad reads 22-25 MPG on the highway on the trip computer, but actual is 17-18 MPG.

You can change the trip computer to make mpg more accurate. It can be adjusted
by multiples of 5% from where it is now. Needs a VAG tool. Don't remember all the steps, but I had the dealer do it to our allroad and previous TT. Seems like the factory setting is about 10% too high.
